Welcome to Year 5!
Our class teachers are:
Year 5 will have a fantastic start to their 'Savage World' topic by visiting the Natural
History Museum in London. We will participate in saving mankind from a scientific
catastrophe first hand as well as experiencing an earthquake. We look forward to finding
out much more about natural disasters and the effect they can have. At the end of term we
will be celebrating our fabulous learning with a fundraiser for parents and carers, which will see children create their own charity rap single. In maths this term we will be focusing on number skills, fractions, decimals and percentages. Please help your child practise their times tables on a regular basis. In English we will be covering various text types and developing our skills as writers. Reading continues to play an important role in our learning and we hope to broaden the children's experience of authors and genres. We will also have the opportunity to meet Francesca Armour Chelu, a celebrated author, who will lead us in a creative writing workshop. In science this term we will be learning about living things and their habitats as well as materials and their properties. We will be making strong cross-curricular links to our topic when focusing on why natural disasters occur.
*Year 5 will have PE every Tuesday and Wednesday (please make sure kit is named).
*In Year 5 children are expected to read every day and record this in their planners.
*In Year 5 children are expected to practise their times tables and number skills focus every week.
