Welcome to Year 6. Our class teachers are Miss Adams, Mrs Carr and Mrs Ellis.
In Year 6 this term, the children will be learning about crime and punishment, with the key question 'Does the punishment fit the crime? As part of this, they will visit Norwich Castle on Monday 25th February where they will take part in workshops to learn about crime and punishment now and in the past. They will also visit Ipswich Crown Court on Wednesday 20th March and Thursday 21st March and have the opportunity to take part in a mock trial led by a judge. For our authentic finish, the children will use this learning to debate the statement 'The punishment fits the crime' to Year 5. We will be inviting parents in to explore Expresso on Wednesday 27th March. The children will also be visiting Adastral Park as part of British Science Week on the 12th and 13th March. In maths this term, we will be focusing on developing the children's reasoning skills across the maths curriculum as well as consolidating their arithmetic skills. Please help your child practise their number skills focus each week and supporting them with their homework. In English we will be covering various text types and developing our skills as writers. The children will be debating the statement ‘Graffiti is a crime’ before writing a balanced argument, writing a newspaper report about a serious crime and writing diary entries from the magical world of Pandora. With reading, the children will be exposed to many more authors and texts and and we hope to improve the children’s ability to develop their answers to questions.
