At The Oaks, it is our aim to provide our children with a high-quality science education that provides the foundations for understanding the world through the appropriate teaching of biology, chemistry and physics as set out by the National Curriculum. Science has changed our lives and is vital to the world’s future prosperity, and all pupils should be taught essential aspects of the knowledge, methods, processes and uses of science. We seek to develop children’s understanding of the nature, processes and methods of science through different types of science enquiries and to ensure that they are equipped with scientific knowledge required to understand the uses and implications of science. They will experience different types of research and experimentation which will help them answer scientific questions about the world around them and this policy will ensure that high standards are achieved and that pupils make good progress at every stage.
~ To ensure that the statutory requirements of the National Curriculum (2014) for science are taught.
~ To ensure that from the EYFS onwards, pupils are confident in their understanding and application of their basic skills in science and that they build upon their prior learning at every stage.
~ To promote and develop children’s enjoyment and enthusiasm for science through working scientifically. This will look like exciting, practical, first-hand learning with opportunities to experiment, explore and investigate.
~ Develop a pupils problem solving and reasoning skills so that they can apply their scientific thinking across the curriculum and develop a sense of wonder about the world around them.
~ Children learn to ask scientific questions and begin to appreciate the way science will affect their future on a personal, national, and global level.
~ To bring science to life and make it real so that children understand the importance of science in the world and in their everyday day lives.
