This term we will be exploring the question 'Would you rather roam the sky or live under the sea?’ We will be learning all about animals, transport and space to enable us to answer our question. Our learning will start with an exciting afternoon dressing up as mammals, birds or fish and learning about animal habitats. Followed by an exciting trip to Colchester Zoo, where we will be looking at animal environments and their adaptations. We are so excited! Our learning will end, with us as artists, creating an exhibition for parents to view and buy our artwork, which will represent all of the learning we have done this term and the artist we have learnt about this year! To support our local community we will be voting for the charity/cause we will donate the money that we raise from our exhibition.

Throughout the term we will learn to launch a rocket into space, just like Neil Armstrong, as well as creating our own rockets! We will also become flight attendants and pilots as we learn about air travel. We will even get the chance to fly on a magic carpet around the world to see how other people live.

In maths this term we will be securing our learning of numbers to 10. We will be consolidating our understanding of one more and one less and adding and subtracting within 10. As well as learning to recall number facts from memory such as 5 and 3 is 8. We will then be learning about halving, doubling and sharing. Please help your child practise counting, writing and reading numbers to 10 as often as possible. In English we will be immersing ourselves in a range of texts about the sky and sea to ensure we continue to develop the phonic skills needed to read and write sentences. Reading continues to play a vital role in our learning and we hope to broaden the children's experience of authors and genres through some interesting texts!

*Reception will continue to have PE every Thursday so please continue to send your child to school dressed in their P.E kit

*The children will have Forest Schools on a Wednesday for a 2 week slot each this term - more information will be posted on tapestry.

*In Reception children are expected to read every day. The best way you can support your child with their learning is to read with them daily. Children will collect gems in their treasure chests every time they read at least four times a week ☺ Keep reading!

*Fast phonics is a great way to develop your child’s phonic skills and the programme compliments the work that we do at school. Children will collect stamps and then receive a prize for completing this at home.
