This term we will be exploring the question 'Would you rather roam the sky or live under the sea?’  We will be learning all about animals, transport and space to enable us to answer our question. Although this term our learning couldn't start with our exciting trip to Colchester Zoo, we have been researching animals from home and watching links to zoos on Tapestry! At the moment, because of the situation we are in, we don't know how our learning will end, but we would like to support the local community by sharing photos of our artwork with our local care home. Unfortunately we won't be able to be artists in the same way, creating an exhibition for parents and special visitors to view and buy our artwork, which will represent where we would rather live!

Throughout the term we will learn to launch a rocket into space, just like Neil Armstrong, as well as creating our own rockets! We will also become flight attendants and pilots as we learn about air travel. We will even get the chance to fly on a magic carpet around the world to see how other people live.

In maths this term we will be securing our learning of numbers to 20. We will be consolidating our understanding of one more and one less and adding and subtracting within 20. We will then be learning about halving, doubling and sharing.  Please help your child practise counting, writing and reading numbers to 20 as often as possible. In English we will be immersing ourselves in a range of texts about the sky and sea to ensure we continue to develop the phonic skills needed to read and write sentences. Reading continues to play a vital role in our learning and we hope to broaden the children's experience of authors and genres through some interesting texts!

Even though our learning is being done remotely at the moment, we are committed to providing a knowledge rich curriculum that sparks the children's excitement and prepares them for Year 1.

This term we will be exploring the question ‘Are goodies always good and are baddies always bad?’ We will be looking at a number of fairytales to enable us to answer our question. Our learning will start with an exciting fairytale day, where we will be immersed in the fairytales and come to school as fairytale characters. We will also get the chance to watch a performance of Hansel and Gretal, we can’t wait! Our learning will culminate in a performance to you the parents, sharing the stories we have learnt!
