On Thursday 1st December The Oaks held a Victorian day for Years 5 and 6. The pupils came to school in a variety of Victorian costumes and began their day.
Hand inspection was followed by religious instruction. Reading, writing and arithmetic lessons were very different from the format of today’s teaching styles.
A few children were ill disciplined so ‘suffered the cane’ to teach them to mend their ways. Sadly some incorrect answers led to children being forced to wear the ‘Dunce’ hat at the front of the class.
The children learnt a great deal from the experience about changes in attitudes and maybe now think that their teachers aren’t so bad…….
